The Venetian Aperitif

Meeting in front of the Carlo Goldoni statue, in Campo San Bartolomeo Rialto area
With this tour you will conclude your day as the Venetians do. Thus, you will discover a new aspect of this city that will deepen your fascination

A local assistant will introduce you to the Venetian tradition of Bacari, typical taverns with long glass counters displaying cicchetti (small portions of tasty food, like tapas). Customers consume their cicchetti standing, usually accompanied by ombre or bianchetti (glasses of wine).
According to the most accredited theories, the word bacaro is derived from Bacchus, the god of wine, or from "far bàcara", a Venetian expression meaning “to celebrate”…. and still today, Venetians often meet up with their friends in bacari to socialise – any occasion is good for a celebration!

Bacaro was once the name attributed to winemakers who would come to Venice with a barrel of wine to sell by the glass in Piazza San Marco, together with little snacks. The glass of wine that they sold was called an "ómbra", because the vendors followed the shade of St Mark’s campanile to protect the wine from the sun’s heat.

During the tour a choice of 3 cicchetti is offered along with a tasting of 3 different types of wine from the Veneto region. If minors are present, non-alcoholic beverages will be provided for them.
